Life Transition Coaching
“Life Begins at the End of your Comfort Zone”
—Neale Donald Walsch, author of the series “Conversations With God”
There is a saying that the two constants in life are death and taxes. I would add “change” to that list. So many of us expend a lot of time and energy working to prevent or manage the change that is happening in our lives, with minimal to no ultimate success. Change is inevitable, and it is often uncomfortable and disruptive. Even the changes that we consider to be good change - marriage, birth, new job - can create stress and discomfort for us.
Throughout history, humans have created rituals and ceremonies to commemorate and celebrate significant life events. Many cultures have customs to mark the transition into adulthood. Death and grief used to be associated with lengthy and very specific customs to honor the dead and identify the grieving. Marriage, childbirth, and even the dissolution of marriages were community events and the individuals could lean on their family and friends for guidance and support. There was a cultural recognition and support system to sustain you through life’s transformations.
In our modern world, many of these customs and rituals have fallen by the wayside. And we have lost the comfort of community and family in our modern culture as a result of our highly mobile society. We are expected to take a week or so off work to celebrate or commemorate our major life events, and then get back to work as though nothing has changed. When we find ourselves struggling to get back to “normal” after a major life transition, the tendency is to blame ourselves and shame ourselves for not being better sooner. We can become irritable, exhausted, anxious and depressed - because we “should be” stronger or better by now. Not true!
Life Transition Coaching is designed to create a space where you can safely experience the feelings that normally and logically accompany change. It is a space where you will acknowledge the emotional, spiritual, physical, and even financial impacts that come along with change. The coaching experience becomes the ritual and commemoration of the significance of your life transitions.
In coaching, you will also get to explore the opportunities that change provides you. Even the difficult changes - divorce, job loss, death - can open you to new life experiences. Through deep kindness and unwavering truth telling - coaching will move you from anguish to hope.
Your new life is waiting. It is out there just beyond your fears. As your Life Transition Coach, I will be your champion as you embrace the change that is inevitable and craft that change into the life of your dreams.
